Who we are
Founded in 2008, Community Coalitions of Virginia (CCoVA) is dedicated to strengthening substance use prevention efforts across the Commonwealth by promoting education, building awareness, and supporting the work of local coalitions. We serve as a hub for connection and collaboration, bringing together partners at the local, state, and national levels to share knowledge, elevate best practices, and advance effective, community-driven prevention strategies.
As a statewide network of coalitions, CCoVA brings together members from all types of communities–large and small, rural and urban. Substance use affects every community, regardless of geographic boundaries, so we strive to include representation from all 95 counties and 38 independent cities in Virginia. This broad network allows us to share timely information, foster collaboration, and help each coalition better meet the unique needs of the communities they serve.
By connecting coalitions and partners, CCoVA helps ensure that communities are not working in isolation, but instead learning from one another and building on shared successes. This collaborative approach strengthens local capacity, amplifies community voices, and supports sustainable, data-informed strategies that reduce risk factors and promote healthy, resilient communities statewide.
Mission Statement:
CCoVA works collaboratively to prevent and reduce substance use and related risk factors in Virginia communities in ways that are measurable and that improve well-being of individuals and communities.
